Throwback Thrillers: Diorific Long-Wearing True Color Lipstick in Lady

Finding the perfect shade of red lipstick can be hard, especially if you want one that is fun and attention-grabbing for nighttime, but is still appropriate for day. If you can get your hands on this gorgeous lipstick from Dior, then this problem might very well be solved.
It has a lovely, creamy texture and the shade is one that will translate to most skin tones. It’s vibrant and exotic, while still being tame enough to be taken seriously at work.

It may be a little hard to track down, but trust me, it’ll be worth it. My only complaint is the plastic packaging, which felt a little bit cheap.
Enjoy!

Throwback Thrillers: Tokidoki Cosmetics

It’s always sad when a favorite product is discontinued. But even worse than that is when your entire line gets taken completely off the shelves. That’s how I’m feeling about Tokidoki no longer producing their line of products at Sephora.
I’m gonna be honest, not everything was mind-blowing in terms of quality, though I didn’t find anything unusable. And there was a decent handful of amazing items. What really had me head over heels for this line was… well… it was so darn friggin’ cute!!!

On to the items:

(Not Pictured) The Lion Poppa palette-
Good for neutrals with a very natural blush that would compliment most skin tones. The best part about this little palette was how slim and tiny it was, making it a travel essential.

Tokidoki eyeliner in Sabochan and Tokidoki Punk Lash Mascara in Cactus Rocker-
Again, these were not out of this world, but they did the job, and you got to show off the cute little packaging to your friends!

Prisma Lipgloss-
Very light hint of color and all-around pleasant texture.

Cromatico eyeshadow (in order: Carnivora, Soya, Adios Star, Skeletrina, Diamante, Romeo)-

These were a lot of fun! Some of them could get a little bit chalky, but like with Ulta eye shadows, it wasn’t anything a little high quality primer couldn’t fix. They also came in really exciting, vibrant colors, great for dramatic gals.

And now, my favorites, BY FAR… drum roll, please…

Tokidoki Make-up Brushes! So cute, I could die!!!! (They’re also 100% synthetic, so animal-lovers, fear not!)

Pittura Brush Set-

These three brushes are ridiculously adorable, each topped with a Tokidoki character (Donutella, Adios, and Mozarella, in order.) There is a flat lid brush that applies color seamlessly, a fluffy crease brush that is soft and blends beautifully, and the tiniest, cutest little angled liner brush. The best part about  these is that you don’t have to worry about using any kind of make-up on them and damaging them. As of yet (and I use this set CONSTANTLY, with all types of colors) I’ve been able to wash all the product off and keep my brushes looking new and pretty.

Kabuki brush-

This beautiful kabuki brush is super soft and is awesome for applying highlighter or powder. Like the eye brushes, it cleans off very well and I haven’t experience any shedding whatsoever.

Siberia Blush Brush-

I had to track this one down and now it’s one of my favorite cosmetic trophies. This angled blush brush fits my cheek bones perfectly, deposits color evenly, and appeals to my love for all things pink. It’s so princess-y and cute, how could anyone resist?

Throwback Thrillers: The Body Shop Originals

I’ve been a follower of The Body Shop’s products for a very long time, so when I heard that their Originals line was being discontinued, I was heartbroken. While I didn’t adore every single one of the line’s products (I must confess, the Carrot Moisturizer was a little too sticky for me and I was allergic to the Cucumber Cleansing Milk) I was in love with the delicious shower gels and the refreshing Cucumber Freshening Water. Lucky for me, I was able to nab my favorites before they disappeared from stores and Ebay has an abundant overstock of products, should I ever run out.
But what makes each of these special? All of the following shower gels are a cleansing, nicely-lathering treat, each with a unique, lovely fragrance.

Raspberry Ripple:

This is a rich berry scent that is not overly sweet like many other raspberry fragrances.

Dewberry:

Many people wonder just what exactly a dewberry is. A close cousin of the blackberry, it is a little bit less sweet, leaving this shower gel with a clean, green-based scent.

Green Apple:

A lot of people are going to expect a generic sour apple bubblegum flavor, but this refreshing surprise couldn’t be any less artificial. It smells like deliciously juicy Granny Smith apples, ready for the picking.

Fuzzy Peach:

Peach jello. This might a problem for some, but not for me. Why? I love peach jello.

Spiced Pumpkin:

A lot of pumpkin spice anything tend to make it all about the spice and less about the pumpkin. Not this decadent little gel. The base is a sumptuous candied pumpkin with a subtle spice quickly following it. This gel is divine for hot showers during cold winter days.

Cucumber Freshening Water:

Words cannot describe how much I love this toner. The fragrance is delicious, crisp cucumbers soaked in water. It leaves my skin sparklingly clean and tingly, but doesn’t dry it out. I will miss this one most of all.

Enjoy!

Introducing Throwback Thrillers: Lush Summer Pudding Soap

This weekend I am happy to announce two new features in The Gilded Lily’s line-up. While you won’t see the second one until tomorrow, today’s fun review feature is called Throwback Thrillers.
Every year, dozens of great beauty products get discontinued, leaving us to do whatever we can to find a decent substitute. Luckily, certain websites like Ebay and Amazon.com will occasionally crop up old favorites.

The products featured in Throwback Thrillers will be things that are gone, but not forgotten. And if you like the review and happen to see them being sold somewhere, seize the  last chance you may ever have with it!

Note: While I do encourage trying to find a favorite that’s gone away, please realize that certain products, though they might still appear on Ebay and the like will not be good to use if they’ve been gone for too long a time. Please keep in mind the different shelf lives and expiration dates of individual products and don’t buy anything that could be harmful or useless. Also, don’t keep anything that’s clearly seen previous use. Yuck!

On to the review!
Lush products don’t usually make it to websites like Ebay, due to their short shelf lives. Lush’s Summer Pudding Soap was only recently dropped from stores, so you might still be lucky. It was inspired by a popular British dessert made up of juice soaked cake and seasonal berries. The beige parts of the soap are filled with exfoliating ground almonds and often peppered with dried cherries… though I’m kinda sad, because from what I can see it looks like the last hunk of it I’ll ever own didn’t come with any. =(
It is a very fragrant soap, very sweet and fruity, with a surprisingly pleasant hint of… porridge? It’s a bit difficult to describe, but the end result is very nice. It lathers very nicely as you can see from the above image (my main complaint with several Lush soaps is how little they lather) and the ground almonds plus the natural essential oils leave my hands feeling softened and cleansed. Hope to see this one return someday!
